Title: 1938 RAC rally
Item Name: Amy Johnson

B&W photo of Amy Johnson and a gentleman beside a Bentley rally car. The occasion is the 1938 RAC rally, held on April 26th-30th. The car is a two door 4 1/4 litre Bentley Coupe, registration JB1000 (after its owner Jack Barclay). Barclay was co-driver with Amy and W.G. McMinnies for this race. They won first prize in their class and also first prize in the coachwork competition. Barclay was the principal Rolls Royce and Bentley dealer in London and had been one of the famous "Bentley Boys" who competed at Le Mans and elsewhere during the 1920's. It may be Bentley who is pictured here with Amy. McMinnies was a well-known motoring and motorcycling journalist. This is probably a press photograph.
