Title: Russian medal
Item Name: Amy Johnson

Description:

Silver cross with splayed arms and disc in centre, at the top a loop for ribbon or cord. The obverse is blank apart from the figures of St. George and the dragon in the central roundel. Reverse: single letter with elaborate flourishes in centre, issue number 546 008 (split between left and right arms of cross), '4' and 'CTEII' on lower arm of cross. A pre-revolutionary Russian Cross of St. George medal (a military bravery award), later given to Amy Johnson as a gift (probably in 1931 when she visited Moscow). Part of collection donated by Amy Johnson's father to Sewerby Hall in October 1958.
