Commemorative First Day Cover for Amy Johnson's solo flight from Gravesend, Kent to Capetown, South Africa, in 1936. Issued for the 40th anniversary of the flight. Features on the front, a colour drawing of Amy in flying gear and a larger one of "Jason" over the Timor Sea, May 1930, near the end of the Australia flight. Postmarked Victoria, Seychelles and with a Seychelles stamp depicting Amy. In 1976, pilot Haig Thomas flew a Gipsy Moth aircraft similar to those often used by Amy, from Southend on Sea to the Seychelles. The cover is signed by him and also by R.E. Bain. Group Captain Bain, RAF, met Amy on severla occasions and introduced her to the Percival Gull aircraft - the type in which she made the 1936 flight. The cover was issued by the RAF Museum, Hendon and contains printed biographies of Amy and Group Captain Bain. See also 2002/109.
