Title: House in Flemingate, occupied by Mr J. Southwick.

Maker(s):
Burton, Thomas Bonfrey

Description:

End of building with a triangular pediment above the windows and small columns flanking a window on the upper storey. Traditionally, this house has been identified as the birthplace of St. John Fisher, bishop of Rochester, who was executed by Henry VIII in 1535. However, the brick built house shown here is of late 17th century date - although it is possible that a Tudor house once occupied the site. Card mount. Photograph of an original drawing by T.B. Burton, copied by Miss E.E. Moorby.
