Title: Marton Hall
Item Name: Buildings

Foamboard mounted copy of a black and white photograph showing Marton Hall, Sewerby, sometime in the 19th century. Oblique view. The first hall was built in the Anglo-Saxon period, to judge by the Norse name of the village (Sewerby=Seward's farm). It was acquired by the Creyke family circa 1498 and rebuilt by Gregory Creyke circa 1660 - 1672. In 1906 it was rented out as a school. The hall was sold in 1931 and resold in 1970.
