Title: Decorated brick
Item Name: Craft and Industry

Red brick cube with different designs carved on each surface. Found in 1855, in Railway Street, Beverley, 3 feet below the surface. With its chip carved decoration, this object is reminiscent of a candlestick in Hull Museums Service collections. The style of decoration was common in the Low Countries in the 14th / 15th centuries and the cube may have come back to England with a merchant along with trade goods, perhaps as a souvenir.
