Silver William I penny, black patina. Obverse: William I, wearing "bonnet". Reverse: a cross. Find: Bridlington, (shrubbery at Sewerby bus stop) On 7/7/1997, the coin was examined by Mr W. Lean (Lynton, Eastbourne Road, Godstone, Surrey) doing research for a corpus of early Medieval coins from York. He identified this piece as a BMC type II, ""bonnet"" form, probably minted at York. the moneyer being OVTHGRIM (Authgrimr)."
