Copper alloy Northumbrian styca of Aethelred II. first reign. Obverse: King's name EDILRED REX around star within a circle of pellets. Reverse: Moneyer's name [.....]VVLDE around central pellet within circle of pellets. From hoard of 28 copper alloy Northumbrian stycas, found by metal detecting at Asselby between November 2018 and January 2019. The coins date to the period 840-867AD. 11 coins belong to the reign of Aethelred II, four to the reign of Osberht and the remainder either have blundered legends or are illewgible.
