Sepia photograph of John Henry Barrow, (known locally as Jack) a roadsweeper, photographed in Walkergate, Beverley. Equipped with a broom and shovel, his three-wheeled cart is labelled "Beverley Corporation". Mounted on card. an undated note in the Art Gallery files relating to this photograph states that he lived at 2 Princess Gardens, Beverley. He was married to Eliza Barrow, who worked as a cleaner for Beverley library & art gallery and was the model for the cook in Fred Ewell's painting 'Elevenses'. In the background to this photograph is the Malt Shovel public house.
