Sepia carte-de-visite of a working class man (holding bowler hat and leaning on a chair) posed in a studio, view of Driffield church (?) and photographers details on the back printed in red. Subject probably identified by the writing on the back -"George W. Snowden, Garton near Driffield." A George W. Snowden, 23, a joiner is listed in the 1871 census at Wansford, Yorkshire and in 1881, aged 34, a carpenter at 719 Wandsworth Road, Clapham, London. Born in Driffield, he could be the person in this photograph. Matthew Boak had premises in Malton, Bridlington (5 Promenade) and Driffield, operating between 1876 and 1906 when he died. His sons assisted in the business.
