Title: Sea Bathing, Bridlington Bay
Item Name: Print
Maker: Bensley, T.

Hand tinted etching in black wood glazed frame. Bridlington Bay, bathing machines on left with woman being helped into sea by attendant, Flamborough Head in background with Sewerby Village, Beacon Hill and lighthouse. This scene illustrates well how complicated sea bathing was in the 19th century. In order to maintain modesty, men and women had to wear almost as many clothes to bathe as they would have done walking down the street!
