Description:

Tinted postcard showing the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Company's steamship 'SS Berlin', which was built in 1891. Renamed 'The Ribble' in 1916 and broken up in 1933. Interned at Copenhagen on the outbreak of WWI. In 1916, the Captain (T.H. Woodhead), first mate H.R. Aaron and 2nd mate F.N. Newlove, along with a local crew, travelled from Newcastle to Copenhagen via Bergen in norway. They then stole the ship back, changing the paintwork to avoid recognition on the voyage. They met two British destroyers, who escorted them home.
