Bronze life saving medal awarded to Mr J. Connor H.M. Coastguard by the Royal Humane Society of London. On obverse: a cherub. Latin lettering above - LATEAT SCINTILLVLA FORSAN (Perchance some small spark may lie concealed). Smaller lettering under line beneath - SOC.LOND.IN.RESVSCITAT.INTERMORTVORVM.INSTIT.MDCCLXXIV. i.e. 1899. On reverse: wreath enclosing abbreviated latin text within - VIT. OB. SERV. D.D. SOC. REG. HVM. (for life saving, the Royal Humane Society). Lettering around outer edge - HOC PRETIVM CIVE SERVATO TVLIT (he has obtained this award for saving the life of a citizen). Blue textile ribbon. Awarded to Mr J. Connor, who rescued Alice Ely aged 20 and Charles Spencer aged 26, when they fell into the sea whilst trying to board H.M.S. Onyx, at 4pm on the 13th August 1899.
