Title: Egg climmin'
Item Name: Work

The back of this postcard reads 'egg climbing' 'at the cliffs. Bempton Cliffs Making the descent a climber swings himself outwards whilst the rope is paid out.' The postcard shows a man collecting seabird eggs. In East Yorkshire this activity was often referred to as egg climming (from climbing) and the men who collected the eggs as egg climmers. Watching the egg climmers at work was a popular activity for tourists. Search "climming" and "climmer" for other egg collecting objects and images in our collection.
