Description:

Half model of the steam ship "Derwent", showing the starboard side. 1:48 scale, painted black above the waterline. Boxwood superstructure, with the hull made of pine; brass stanchions and a mahogany backboard. A metal plaque on the backboard is engraved "W. Dobson & Co., shipbuilders, Walker, Newcastle on Tyne." The SS Derwent was owned by the Goole Steam Shipping Co. (1888-1918), then the Lancs. & Yorks. Railway Co. (1918-c1922) and finally by the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (1923-1930). The vessel seems to have been of the same design as the "Aire" and the "Calder" (see M233). It is listed in the Lloyds Register of British and Foreign Shipping from 1888 to 1930.
