Description:

Model of the trawler SS Lord Reading, green and pink hull, plain wood deck and cabins, orange funnel. A half model with mirrors at back and sides, brown wood case. Details of builders, vessel and name of proposed owners at base on brass plate - "SS Lord Reading built by Cochrane & Sons Ltd., Selby for Pickering and Haldane's Steam Trawling Co. Ltd., Hull. Length BP 138' 4", Breadth Extreme 23' 9", Depth moulded 13' 6", scale 1/4"=1 foot. The "Lord Reading" was completed in April 1916, but then requisitioned by the Admiralty for use as a minesweeper during the First World War. Returned to her owners in 1919, she was sold to new owners in the Faroe Islands in 1926 and renamed "Magnus Heinason". Reverting to her old name in the following year, she was sold to Argentine owners in 1928 and registered in Buenos Aires as the "Bigua". On 17/9/1944 she sank off Banco Chico in the river plate following a collision.
