Bio:

Painter of landscapes and ships in oils and watercolours. Educated at King's College school. Studied in antwerp with Verlat and at the Academie Julian, Paris. Exhibited from 1888. Worked in St. Ives and produced coastal scenes there. Known for his bright and colourful harbour/coastal scenes - England, France, Holland, the Mediterranean and North Africa. He was president of the Liverpool Academy and a prolific painter and exhibitor in London galleries, as well as in Liverpool and the NE of England. RA from 1888, elected ARA in 1924 and RA in 1933. Also ROI, PRI, RI, RWA, RBC, HRM, CamA. Elected RI in 1904 and president in 1934. Published a book on landscape painting, as well as "The Art of Pastel" (1937). Examples of his work can be found in the V & A, Aberdeen and Leeds City Art Gallery.
